What we collect
Nothing. PrivyTranslate does not collect translation text, prompts, personal identifiers, usage analytics, advertising data or device telemetry. The app does not require an account and does not provide cloud sync.
Summary
We operate no translation service. Any text you translate either stays on your device or goes directly to a provider endpoint that you configured yourself.
How translation works
Where your text goes depends entirely on the provider you select.
- Built-in Local. The bundled GGUF model processes the translation on your device. No network request is made.
- Ollama and LM Studio. If you configure a local model server, text is sent directly to the address you entered — typically a machine on your own network.
- OpenAI-compatible providers. If you configure a remote endpoint, text is sent only to that provider, and is then subject to that provider's own privacy policy rather than this one.
- Chrome Translator. The browser extension can use Chrome's built-in on-device Translator API where it is available, which keeps the page text inside the browser.
Local storage
Translation history and preferences are stored locally on your device. Where the platform provides secure system key storage — Keychain on macOS and iOS — API keys are stored there.
You can clear history from inside the app at any time, or uninstall PrivyTranslate to remove its local data entirely.
